Simply Consumed

“I’ve always wanted to be a singer-songwriter. As a drummer, I felt as if people could not connect emotionally to the music I was playing. At the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, I had recently bought a ukelele and was experimenting with songwriting. I could only play a couple of chords, but I set out to write some songs. I’d spend my free time learning how to play guitar at school. When I received the opportunity to work on a year-long project, Mr. Berg and I met up to discuss what I wanted to accomplish with the time I was given. Initially, I just wanted to produce an album. I had no idea if I was capable of doing it, and I was still uncomfortable with sharing my music. For the first months, I spent the time improving my guitar skills and songwriting. By February, I had a majority of the songs written. As time went on, I realized I was so passionate about the project that it was something I should take outside of school. I spent the next summer recording the album in my sister’s makeshift studio. What started off as a simple idea has led me here. I have a full album recorded, ready to put out very soon. I’ve started to tackle social media, with a Facebook page and Youtube videos up. I see this last year as something that has shaped me, and I’ve developed as a person in ways I did not imagine possible. I’m more confident about my music, and I’ve put myself out there through sharing lyrics. This coming year, I want to learn how to market my music. I hope to learn more about the technical side of music and use that knowledge to reach a greater audience.”
